Let's face it, the US economy stinks right now. Yes, oil prices are dropping, but consumer confidence is still very low. Everyone's waiting at home, just expecting gas prices to shoot up again. Some will argue that now is a HORRIBLE time to start a business, what's the point in starting a business when there are no customers right? The truth is though, people are still spending money. McDonald's will not go out of business even if we hit a full on recession. Your business can thrive in this economy as well, as long as it's geared toward today's money spender. That, however, is fodder for a financial or business blog. THIS, is a logo design blog.
I said all that, to say all this. Don't let a bad economy hamper your business startup and success.
With prices going through the roof on everything from gas to groceries you may be tempted to use cheap or cut rate graphic, logo, or website designers if you are in the process of starting a business in this economy. STOP! You may be ruining your chances of having a successful business. There is NEVER a good time to sacrifice professional design, especially when your new business is concerned. Find other places to cut back, print your own letterhead and envelopes from your home or business computer for example, but DON'T skimp on your new business logo design, stationery design, or website design.
The fact is, if you DO go the cheap, un-professional route on your business collateral, it's going to look cheap, in a thrifty economy. Even in this doom and gloom mindset we are currently all caught up in, we still want the companies we do business with to look professional. Just because Downy shot up $1.00 a jug over the last two months doesn't necessarily mean I'm switching to the generic. The generic makes my clothes feel like cardboard, so I'm going to bite the bullet, and pay for that better product. Your potential customers will do the same to an extent. They want to see a professional image to ensure that the money that they ARE letting go of is headed to the right place.
So, bad economy= the best time to avoid cutting corners where your business imagery is concerned.
Spend a little more, look a lot better, and attract the new pennywise consumer.

i agree. there is always a way to boost your business even in this crisis. thanks for sharing!
Friends of ours that have online businesses in general haven't been hit very hard by this whole downturn. Graphics is one area you shouldn't skimp on - I just wrote a post about that at one of my blogs. I'm horrible at graphics. I hire out for all jobs that must be done well.
Starting a business in this economy is possible, and I've been doing my best to help get the word out to people on how to go about it. Starting a new business soon? 5 questions for you, along with the answers of course. Starting a business now is the best time you could start a business - because you're getting started. You're acting... making a decision and acting.
Good luck to you and if you want to send me your email for logo designs I'm always in need of decent designers. Thanks much! Vern
